Chilly in Cali

20141228-101616.jpg

This is crazy. You know it’s crazy cold when it hits below 60 degrees. Well, at least it is for us in SoCal. I’m telling you, I can’t remember a winter as cold as this! I swear, this weather is killing me.

Yea, I’m sure people on the East Coast are probably laughing at me, thinking, “That’s not even cold” but I’m sorry, this is just ridiculous cold. C’mon, give me a break…I’m from SoCal 😉 it’s not supposed to be this cold here!

Just trust me when I say, for SoCalians, this is just too cold to f*ck with.

Buddha Says

I loved visiting Sri Lanka. It is an exotic, cultural country…so tranquil.

Buddhism is their main religion and one cannot help but admire and appreciate their spirituality.

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.”

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.”

Since Polimoda

20141001-012329.jpg

It’s been almost 5 years since I left Firenze. And I miss it every single day. Since graduating from Polimoda, our reunions have taken us all over the world. We’ve had 3 weddings and now a new engagement and our first baby!

I Confess

20140904-215209.jpg

Bless me, Father…for I have sinned.

But who hasn’t?? We all sin, that’s the truth. As a Catholic, my least favorite sacrament is reconciliation (gasp! What a surprise haha).

Although I do not enjoy Confession, it is a sacrament that I should constantly nurture because…Lord knows, I’m good at sinning! Im just kidding. But I do know that my soul is no joking matter so I shall confess!!!

Love, peace & reconciliation!

Religious

20140630-013211.jpg

I’m Catholic but quite honestly I’m really not that religious. I can’t say that I go to Mass every single week and sometimes I forget to say my prayers but I believe in Christ, I am a Christian.

I never try to impose my religion on anyone else because, with any religion, I just don’t think anyone should go there. Your religion is your religion. But I expose the views of Catholicism, or at least I try to, through my actions in my everyday life.

I feel as if all religions are equally important. And, truth be told, every single religion calls for every single human being to LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

May God bless us all. Namaste.

Bo Ne with Pâté

20140411-133007.jpg

I found this Vietnamese restaurant, Mon Ami, on Yelp. They serve French-Vietnamese cuisine. Most of the Yelpers recommended the Bo Ne with pâté sauce. I love getting the pâté banh mi sandwiches so I definitely wanted to try this particular dish. It was pretty good, not bad at all!! The steak was delicious and the pâté sauce was amazing. The onions and egg on the side complimented the meat dish very well. If you’re in OC and in the mood for some good meat, try Mon Ami!

Stay Married

20140206-195552.jpg

During the last Sunday mass of 2013, the priest asked all married couples to stand up and renew their wedding vows. That’s how important the sacrament of marriage is. We need to nurture this type of union. We, as Catholics, have a responsibility to always stand by our married couples and give them the strength to stay united to each other.

Lady Gaga Speaks Truth

20131122-055034.jpg

I like Lady Gaga. She’s so talented and I bet she’s just this amazing human being.

I saw this post by Gaga on Facebook and thought it was pretty true. There’s just so many haters out there….they act so mean and hate on others mainly because of their judgements opinions. Instead of enjoying their lives, they spend their days talking sh*t like they have the right to. You don’t like Lady Gaga…then don’t listen to her music. You dislike the Kardashians…then don’t watch their show. You want to hate…then try to be nice or not be anything at all.

I guess the reason why I created “The Mimi Amore” is because I want to be me without having to expose ME. I can be Mimi and if you like it…awesome, if you don’t…please don’t waste your time on Mimi, she’s not worth it 😉

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier” – Blessed Mother Teresa

Only in Vegas

20131120-004807.jpg

This one time, I went to a club in Las Vegas…and guess who was there? Lil Jon. Yeah…the real Lil Jon. He was the guest DJ of the night! And to be honest, he did a damn good job! I was able to get to the front and the only thing separating us were his turn tables. If I could’ve, I would’ve been all over him. There’s nothing sexier than a man with endless talents! YEAH!

Poggio Imperiale for Polimoda

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR POLIMODA STUDENTS
Finding accommodations for Polimoda may not be so easy because you might have some doubts about deciding on a place before seeing it in person.  That was my issue.  I knew I wanted to get a place that was close to the school as well as the main city center and I planned on not paying more than 600 euros a month for rent.  Luckily for me, I found Poggio Imperiale.
POGGIO IMPERIALE (Photo by tripadvisor.com)
I suggest that you stay here for at least 2-4 weeks and try to look for rooms and roommates once you arrive in Florence.  It might cost you a little but it’ll totally be worth it, at least for the first month.  In order to apply for your Student Visa for Italy, you’ll need Proof of Accommodations and Clara will be able to assist you on this…so yea, it’s definitely worth it!  Poggio Imperiale is right next to Porta Roma so it’s pretty close to the city (Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, etc)  If you stay for a minimum of 3 months, you can rent the apartment at a cheaper rate (that’s what I did…I lived here for the first 3 months in Florence with a roommate.)
FINDING A ROOMMATE
I asked Irene (Admissions at Polimoda) to assist me on finding a roomate.  She was very helpful and gave me a few people to contact and I eventually ended up agreeing on rooming with a classmate even before meeting her.  Okay, here’s the thing, as much as it’s important to see the actual apartment before locking it down…you should really meet your roommate first before committing to anything!  Remember, you’re going to be attending an INTERNATIONAL fashion institute so there will be people from all over the world and you may not “click” with all of them, including your own roommate.  Lastly, here’s another tip, GET YOUR OWN ROOM…you can live with roommates but don’t share rooms unless you absolutely have to!!  Chances are, you’re going to need your own “space“.
Good luck finding accommodations in Firenze!!
